Biography

Born in Bangkok, Thailand, Bryony Rose Bensly received her B.F.A. from Dartington College of Arts, U.K. and her M.F.A, graduating cum laude, from The New York Academy of Figurative Art.
She also attended Pratt Institute, N.Y.
She was awarded an Artist in Residence position by The Historic Santa Fe Foundation in 2006.

Bryony Rose Bensly uses figurative means to express different spiritual and psychological states. The emphasis is in creating a vibrant quality to the flesh, or subject, that strives to convey a life force that cannot be extinguished. In each piece there is either an external manipulation to the form, or an attempt to reflect an internal condition that can render it utterly anatomically impossible. This distortion, this absurdity, immediately presents a dialogue in which she wishes to engage the viewer, and attempts to reflect her own experiences and reactions. Whilst primarily drawn to the human body as a vehicle of expression, other models that can provide a platform of the familiar are also incorporated.
